The Arts Council of Erie officially approved its new Strategic Plan on Thursday June 8th, 2006. This plan, the first done by the Arts Council in many years, sets the stage for the organization to provide new programs and services to the Erie Community.

Karen Imig, Board Chair of the Arts Council of Erie noted that what made this process unique was the extensive input received from the Erie Community. “We did not want a plan that was insular. Instead, we sought opinions from individuals, many of whom had no prior relationship with the Arts Council and who were from interest areas not typically associated with the arts. We’ll be analyzing that information to find ways that the Arts Council can best serve the Erie Community.”

Adding new membership categories and revisions to the United Arts Fund Drive have already surfaced as priority issues. Also, the role of the Arts Council as an advocate for the arts will be enhanced. “The value the Arts Council brought to the Amusement Tax discussions was noted repeatedly by many in the arts community” according to Imig.

The Strategic Planning process was funded by grants from the Erie Community Foundation, the PA Council on the Arts and the Erie Arts Endowment of the Arts Council of Erie. Andrea Kaiser of Cultural Consulting Services of Wellesley, MA led the Arts Council in the planning process.
